Regular 1:1 Potter's Wheel Tuition Sessions:
Learn to develop your skills through a series of personalised sessions tailored to your needs.
The regular 1:1 wheel tuition sessions are ideal for adults with limited to no experience who would like to get to grips with the basics of throwing on the wheel without the distraction of other students present.
The aim of these sessions is not to come away with finished pots, it is instead designed to help you learn the skills required to become confident using a potter's wheel. You will have plenty of clay to practice with so if it flops then you simply grab another ball of clay and try again. Sometimes the pots will be sliced in half to inspect the wall thickness. You might experiment with pushing the clay to its limits by seeing how tall or wide you can go before it flops. This is a great activity to help you improve and gain a better understanding of how the clay behaves.
However sometimes you might make a pot that you are particularly proud of and so if you do wish to have any of your pots fired and clear glazed, this is possible for a charge of £5 per pot. (If the dimensions of the pot exceed 15cm wide and 20cm tall then the firing cost may be higher.)

I take a limited number of clients for tuition sessions and so when I am full a waiting list may be used. When I have availability the tuition can be arranged on a mutually convenient day and time between 9am and 4pm on most days except Weekends.
Each 1:1 session lasts up to 90 minutes. Experience has shown that this is a good amount of time to enable progression and maintain concentration. Please be aware that learning to throw is physically and mentally demanding and you may feel tired after the session. I believe that having regular shorter sessions is the optimal way to learn this skill.
