This is an informal 4 week practice-based throwing course for adults aimed at beginners who would like to learn basic throwing skills. It is popular with those who have had a taster session and wish to learn more however no previous experience is necessary. This is an adult only course if you have children wishing to learn how to throw please look at the 90 minute taster or 2 hour events.

The course takes place at the Fancy Frog Pottery Studio, 133 Dean Road, Scarborough on 4 consecutive weekday evenings from 6:30pm til 9pm.
The course will cover:
-
Clay preparation – the Ram's Head wedging technique
-
Centering clay on the wheel
-
Throwing basic cylinders then moving on to trying different forms – Jug, vase, small side plates, dishes etc. Practicing your preferred form.
-
Basic introduction to trimming
-
Pulling and attaching handles
-
Simple decorating techniques using coloured clay slips.
You will be introduced to new skills each week which you will have time to practice. The emphasis of the course is on you spending time at the wheel rather than sitting and listening to me talking :) It is a hands on practical course with as much or as little support as you need. Numbers are kept intentionally small to ensure everyone has the guidance they need.

You will be using off-white stoneware clay. The pots will be fired with a clear glaze to make them food safe.
Pots will be ready for collection approximately 6 weeks after the end of the course. You will be messaged to let you know when they are ready for collection.
